Hydraulic jet pumps have no moving parts downhole and tolerate sand, high gas–liquid ratio and deep wells, making them an important deliquification method for tight and horizontal gas wells. Cavitation and gas blocking in the throat, however, keep efficiency low, and nozzle/throat design methods for gas wells are lacking.

The group develops performance models and gas-blocking boundaries for concentric dual-tubing jet pumps, VOF simulations of gas–liquid flow, surrogate-model–based multi-objective optimization of nozzle and throat parameters, and field application analysis (including the Maoping-1 well).
